North Khorasan
North Khorasan is a rather limited area comparable to the great province of Khorasan. After the late division of this province that led to introduction of the present three provinces (Razavi, northern, and southern) in the current geographical divisions of Iran, north Khorasan now encompasses such cities as Bojnurd (the center), Shirvan, Esfarayen, Ashkhane, and Faruj. Khorasan inhabitants are a blend of several peoples as Kurds (Kormanj), Turks, and Fars's. There are also Turkmen who rather reside at the province of Golestan and the Turkmenistan republic. No few of Kormanji Kurds could be found in cities of Ghuchan and Chenaran, located at the Razavi province of Khorasan. The prevalent music of this area belongs to Kormanj too.
This instrument is often used as an accompaniment for Qoshme and Kamanche. It possesses a particular status and much popularity among the Kurds of north Khorasan (Kormanjis). In Bojnurd vernacular, it is also called Dezire. At present, Hoseyn Babi is one of its eminent performers who has played it for forty years. North Khorasan Turks name it as "Al Dafi".
At playing, performers of this instrument use both their hands to be able to render efficiently all Riz's and Eshare's (fine and delicate touches of fingers) by means of their fingers. Strong themes are the main feature of Dayere playing in north of Khorasan.
Application of this instrument in wedding ceremonies first comes to be when it is supposed to invite people to the event. Upon this, a handkerchief filled with raisin, pea, comfit, etc. is given to whoever invited to the ceremony. Ashiqs play Sorna and Dohol and women play Dayere, dance and sing while calling for families. Amongst the typical tunes of this ceremony is "Lorki" that is sung as also a large number carry out games (and dance) to melodies such as Yeqarse, Doqarse, etc. played one Sorna and Dohol, or Qoshme and Dayere. ...
