A collection of about 14 to 21 different maqams, called the ancient maqams, makes an important part of the music of Kermanshahan. These maqams are also known as being "Qeyr-e yari:", "Qeyr-e Kalam" and "Qeyr-e haqqani". Such terms are actually used to distinguish these maqams from the sacred ones (the ritual hymns of the Yarasan) known as the kalam. Tanbur is the most important musical instrument in performing the ancient maqams, although certain maqams are also performed on such instruments as Sorna, Dohol, Dozaleh, Narme-nay and Shemshal. ...
