Seyyed Hoseyn Taherzade was born in Esfahan in 1882. His father, Seyyed Taher Tuyserkani, had moved from his hometown, Tuyserkan, to Esfahan so that he could study in Sadr School, under the supervision of the Esfahan Seminary. As a young boy, Hoseyn would walk along Esfahan's major river, Zayanderud, and sing chants and vocals; many a passerby would gather around the young artist and give him a big hand.
Taherzade met Darvish Khan, the legendary tar player in the house of Saffa Ali Zahirodole (a key figure among the Saffayi dervishes and the founder of Okhovat Society). The acquaintance of the two men led to their close friendship and artistic collaboration. Taherzade participated in the concerts held by Okhovat Society which were encouraged by Zahirodole to raise money for charity.
Some time later, Taherzade went to Tbilisi with Darvish Khan, Baqer Khan Rameshgar, Eghbalossoltan (vocals), and Abdolah Davami (tasnif and zarb) to make some records and perform two nights at the Georgian Theater. Taherzade enjoyed more fame and publicity when these records were made available later to the Iranian public. He sang in several concerts in the 1920s; in one of these concerts held in Tehran's Grand Hotel in 1924, he sang a famous tasnif from Mallekoshoara raised in all these events would go to charity and orphans' support.
Some of the persons who had seen Taherzade singing in person told that he would sing with his mouth open to an appropriate extent and with his face kept under control. It is clear that he had the necessary concentration required and control in producing tahrir in different kinds of gushe. He was also able to start and end gushes fluently even with quick tahrirs. Yet another strength in his vocal style was the fact that he was well aware of the conceptual meaning of the poetry he would sing because of his classical education; this of course led to further appeal in his vocal style.
